FastLRN is an AI course tutor. Instructors create courses and upload materials; students ask questions and get answers grounded in those materials. This page describes what we collect, who sees it, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
- Account information — your email address and the display name you provide at sign-up.
- Your conversations — the full text of every question you ask and every answer the tutor gives, stored against your account and the course.
- Course materials — files, links, and lecture transcripts uploaded by instructors.
We do not collect location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or behavioral tracking data, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Your instructor can read your conversations
The instructor who owns a course can read every conversation their students have with that course’s tutor, including your name and email. This is a deliberate feature: it lets instructors see where a class is struggling and improve the course. Please treat course chat as coursework visible to your instructor, not as a private channel. Other students cannot see your conversations, and instructors cannot see conversations from courses they do not own.
Who else processes your data
We use a small number of service providers to run FastLRN. They process data on our instructions and for no other purpose.
- Supabase — hosts the database and authentication. Stores your account and conversations.
- OpenRouter, routing to Google (Gemini) — generates tutor replies. Your question and the relevant course excerpts are sent for each message.
- Voyage AI — converts your question and course materials into embeddings so the tutor can find relevant passages.
- Anthropic (Claude) — reads scanned PDFs and images at upload time. This touches course materials only, never student chat.
- Postmark — sends transactional email (confirmations, password resets, notifications). Receives your email address only.
Model providers do not train on your conversations
Every request we send for tutor replies carries a routing policy of data_collection: "deny", which restricts routing to providers that contractually do not retain or train on the prompts and responses they process. We set this per request rather than relying on an account-level setting.
Education records
When FastLRN is used as part of a course, your conversations may constitute an education record under FERPA, and we act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest on behalf of your institution. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student data to build advertising profiles.
Retention and deletion
Conversations are kept until you delete them or delete your account. You can delete an individual chat at any time from the chat list, on the web or in the iOS app.
To delete your account, open your account menu and choose Delete account, on the web or in the iOS app. This permanently removes your profile, every conversation, every message, and your enrollment records. It cannot be undone. Course materials uploaded by your instructor belong to the instructor and are not affected.
Reporting a response
AI can be wrong. If the tutor produces something inaccurate, harmful, or inappropriate, report it from the message itself in the iOS app or on the web. Reports go to the FastLRN team for review.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Access is enforced in the database with row-level security, so a student can only reach courses they are enrolled in. API keys for our AI providers are held on our servers and are never present in the browser or the mobile app.
Children
FastLRN is intended for higher-education students and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
